Stolen Ride in Montclair: Car Jacking and Catalyst Crime Spree

Posted on

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Authorities disclosed on Tuesday that two automobile-related offenses occurred in Montclair during the previous week, one of which involved a stolen car.

The Montclair Police Department provided information regarding two recent events that occurred within the township as follows:

April 29 (Hawthorne Place) –

The person who was harmed stated that the catalytic converter was taken from her 2014 Volkswagen Jetta. The stealing happened during the late night when the car was stationary on Hawthorne Place.

May 2 (Valley Road) –

The victim stated that their 2020 Range Rover was taken from near where they work after leaving the car unlocked during an unloading process. An eyewitness saw two people coming out of a gray BMW before getting into the Range Rover. These vehicles sped away together and were spotted heading toward the CVS parking area off Valley Road. There, those inside the Range Rover tried to get into a parked 2022 Dodge Charger but couldn’t because it was securely locked. Following this attempt, the BMW and Range Rover drove eastward along Cooper Avenue towards Park Street. Someone walking on Park Street told police about seeing these same cars stopping at a house on that street. People from within both vehicles went down the driveway intending to steal a parked BMW SUV but failed to do so. After this incident, the BMW and Range Rover were noted driving southbound on Park Street.
