A 33-year-old man from San Benito, who was riding as a passenger in a car moving south on the highway, got out of the vehicle while it was still in motion and was then hit by multiple other cars, according to a statement released by the state police.
According to the police statement, the man passed away due to his injuries.
The accident occurred in the southbound lane close to Route 37. State troopers along with Warwick Fire and Rescue were called to the scene around 9:36 p.m.
