Audi’s New A6 Adds Plug-In Hybrid Option

Audi has launched a new plug-in hybrid system for their updated A6 model.

Available on both saloon and Avant – or estate – layouts, the A6 plug-in hybrid models use a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which is then linked to an electric motor and battery. In total, the system develops 295bhp and sends that power to all four wheels via Audi’s quattro system.

With a 25.9 kWh battery, the A6 plug-in hybrid can provide up to 66 miles of all-electric driving in the station wagon version or up to 69 miles in the more aerodynamically optimized sedan model.

Audi states that the plug-in hybrid can handle a maximum charging rate of 11kW, allowing for a full charge from empty to 100 percent to be achieved in approximately two and a half hours.

The updated A6 plug-in hybrid features three distinct stages of regenerative braking that can be adjusted using the paddle shifters on the steering wheel while operating in electric vehicle-only mode. When driven this way, the car automatically captures energy during deceleration, channeling it back into the battery for future utilization.

The plug-in hybrid comes with all-wheel steering included as a standard feature, enhancing maneuverability at lower speeds while still providing robust stability during higher-speed travel. This mechanism operates by rotating the wheels in opposing directions for better handling when driving slowly, then aligning them in the same direction to ensure stable performance at faster rates.

Audi hasn’t revealed the price of the A6 plug-in hybrid for the UK market yet, but they have stated that it will start at €65,800 in Germany. This would place it approximately at £55,778.
