I’m reaching out to discuss a matter concerning road safety that holds significance for me.
Lately, I’ve noticed numerous drivers using the shoulder to overtake others while heading north at the intersection of Wales Avenue NW and Strausser Street NW. This occurs as cars navigate around each other: one passes from the right while some turn east onto Strausser, and an opposing vehicle turns west. Such maneuvering can lead to collisions since those turning left towards the east won’t anticipate being passed, particularly considering there’s a ‘no pass on shoulder’ rule posted. Remember, shoulders are designated solely for emergency use, not for bypassing other automobiles.
Whenever motorists opt to drive on the shoulder, it usually happens after the vehicle ahead starts moving, prompting others to do the same. Such dangerous actions may result in crashes, injuries, and deaths. In my view, it is essential for all individuals to value safety and comply with traffic regulations.
Alongside tackling this issue, I think the county might want to look into incorporating additional left-turn lanes at this junction. Given its proximity to the highway and nearby high-traffic zones, the street experiences substantial vehicular movement. Implementing these extra lanes would enable motorists to execute left turns more securely and smoothly, thereby decreasing the chances of accidents. Offering specific spaces for those turning left would streamline traffic circulation generally and boost safety for everyone using the roads.
