Kia, the second-largest automaker in South Korea, reported on Tuesday that it had sold a record-breaking quantity of electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe during the initial three months of the year.
During the first three months of the year, Kia sold 27,761 electric vehicles in Europe, marking a 17 percent rise compared to the highest figure recorded in the third quarter of 2023, as per information supplied by the company.
For the first time, electric vehicles made up more than 20 percent of the company’s total car sales in Europe.
The surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales was led by the Kia EV3, a compact electric SUV that sold 17,878 units in the initial three months, representing 64 percent of the brand’s overall EV sales during this timeframe.
Electric vehicle sales are surging across Europe, with 573,500 units sold just in the first quarter, marking a 28 percent increase compared to the corresponding period the previous year, as reported by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.
The Korean car manufacturer intends to enhance its electric vehicle offerings by introducing the new EV4, EV5, and PV5 models in Europe later this year.
