Road Closures Update: Seven Affecting Drivers in Wigan Over Next Two Weeks

It is anticipated that four will result in considerable delays, with drivers experiencing waits ranging from 10 minutes to about half an hour.

The most recent anticipated work schedule, including annotations from National Highways, indicates that a current road closure will likely continue into this upcoming week:

  • M6, starting at 8 PM on April 4 until 5 AM on June 2, will experience minor delays under 10 minutes: The exit slip road from Junction 27 towards the northbound direction will have two lanes closed due to reconstruction and renewal work being carried out by National Highways.

Additionally, another six closings will commence over the upcoming two weeks:

  • M6, from 8 PM on May 9 to 6 AM on May 10, minor delays expected (less than 10 minutes): Northbound M6, between junction 26 and junction 27 – one lane closed due to electrical work.
  • M58, between 9 pm on May 12 and 5 am on May 13, expect moderate delays of 10 to 30 minutes: both directions of M58, specifically from junction 6 to junction 6 – this disruption is due to a carriageway closure for gardening activities such as cutting and planting.
  • M6: From 9 PM on May 12 until 5 AM on May 14, expect minor disruptions with delays ranging from 10 to 30 minutes. Specifically, the M62 eastbound will have lane closures between junctions 10 and 12 as they conduct inspections and surveys.
  • A580: From 9:30 PM on May 12 until 5 AM on May 13, expect minor delays of less than 10 minutes.
    M6 southbound between junctions 24 and 23 – reduced lanes due to barrier work.
  • M58, from 9pm May 13 to 5am May 15, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 26 to junction 27 – lane closure for horticulture (cutting and planting).
  • A580, from 9pm May 19 to 6am May 22, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 both directions junction 22 to J23 – carriageway closure for construction improvement/upgrade.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
