– According to data released by the German Road Traffic Authority (KBA) on Tuesday, Tesla’s vehicle sales in Germany dropped by almost half in April. This decline occurred despite an increase in the overall market for battery electric vehicles.
The KBA reported that Tesla sold 885 vehicles in Germany during April, marking a decline of 45.9% compared to the previous year. From January through April 2025, the total number of Teslas sold decreased by 60.4%, totaling 5,820 units relative to the corresponding timeframe the prior year.
In comparison, KBA also noted that the count of new electric vehicle registrations rose by 53.5% in April from the previous year.
The data from last week indicated that the company’s sales have declined over four consecutive months throughout most of Europe. This trend occurred concurrently with an increase in purchases of Chinese electric vehicles and protests sparked by objections to CEO Elon Musk’s political stances.
The German agency reported that the sales volume of the Chinese electric car maker BYD surged over eight times to reach 1,566 units in April, and climbed nearly fivefold to a total of 2,791 units for the year so far.
